A Day Out in Lancashire
This was a very last minute trip, but I enjoyed every minute of it! I did a bit of research the night before for locations near Blackpool (where I'm currently based) that were within easy driving distance, had some history, and most importantly were aesthetically pleasing. There were a few places that caught my eye, but I decided on Samlesbury Hall and Hoghton Tower. Both of these locations were within a 15 minute drive of each other, and were just over 30 minutes from Blackpool. The great thing was, that neither were bursting with tourists so you could really enjoy your time at them. Samblesbury Hall was FREE (yes!) to go inside, but I did get a little creeped out being upstairs by myself because it's considered to be one of Britain's most haunted spots. You can also stay on site in some lovely little huts or the more luxurious lodge! Dottie's Wafflery is located here as well, England's first wafflery so don't miss out on it!
Hoghton Tower was the second stop, located near Preston. It's a fortified manor house dating back to the 12th century, and was re-built in the 16th century. It does cost £10 to go inside the buildings, so I just had a quick look in the main courtyard but from what I saw on the website it looks pretty impressive!
